Personal Donor Stories
|
|
We thank all of our planned gift donors for their generous support. Here are some of their stories.

Professor and Mrs. Tarow Indow Professor Emeritus, School of Social Sciences
In 2002, the Indows established a planned gift to support the School of Social Sciences. Because of the volatile economy at that time, they preferred the guaranteed nature of a charitable gift annuity, which provides them with a guaranteed fixed income stream. This annuity provides them a stable retirement income while generating a nice charitable income tax deduction.

Virginia Laddey
Friend of UCI
Ms. Laddey’s gift annuities, established through the university, pay her a secure, fixed, lifetime income. Her contribution also provides her with a prudent hedge against inflation from a variable-rate pooled income fund. Additionally, she contributed through a charitable remainder unitrust which provides a family member with an income stream while making an impact at the School of Humanities.

Jamie '97 and Steve Trevor '78 and '79
UCI Alumni
Jamie knew what Steve would have wanted, and she established an athletic scholarship endowment in his memory at UCI. Then she learned she could name The UCI Foundation as beneficiary of her life insurance policy, ultimately fully funding the endowment and helping others reap educational rewards similar to those she and Steve enjoyed while at UCI.

Betty and Verle Annis
Friends of UCI
When Verle retired, the couple moved to Laguna Beach and began promoting the UCI Library even before it was completed. Once the library opened, Betty became a regular volunteer and Verle was featured as a guest author. The couple made several lifetime gifts including charitable gift annuities, and one-half of their estate was bequeathed to UCI.

Jeff and Susan
They had been thinking of making an investment in UCI's Claire Trevor School of the Arts, and decided to follow their accountant's advice and use their real estate to do it.
Because The UCI Foundation is a tax-exempt organization, they pay no taxes on the sale of appreciated properties. Jeff and Susan received a charitable income and estate tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the property, and UCI handled the listing, sale and all the hassles.
